Loving Completely and Letting Go
Unconditional love is a rare gift in human experience. The devotion of another for our greatest benefit without seeking to use or control us is the most blessed form a relationship can take. On this occasion of Mother's Day Fr. Garrett extols how Jesus gave that devotion to others and then prayed through the difficulty of letting them go when it was time for him to leave (John 17:6-19). Many people are blessed to experience that same committed devotion from their mothers and to be mothers that offer it. Unconditional love is not easy; it frequently involves sacrifice and it can be painful when it is time to let go. And it is the model we are given between Jesus and his followers and between God and humanity.
