How to Not Panic

The feeling of dread comes when something important to us is threatened. When we do not feel secure in an important relationship, in the source of our livelihood, in our health, or even more fundamentally, in our ability to attain food and shelter, the powerful feelings that come are often visceral. In this sermon, Fr. Garrett looks at two stories of circumstances that would be terrifying for most people (1 Samuel 17:32-49 and Mark 4:35-41), paying particular attention to the place the protagonists both went to achieve a calmness of spirit instead of panic. He then tells the story of a modern-day woman who shared the peace she maintained in the midst of a very challenging life. There is wisdom here for the times when we feel off balance and worse amidst the storms of life.
